NEW LENOX, IL — A local, all-ages theater group is fine-tuning its portrayal of an animated giant ogre and his adventures with friends.

Nonprofit Spotlight Arts Collective will put on Shrek the Musical, set for Feb. 21–23 at Lincoln-Way West High School's auditorium.

Based on the Oscar-winning, smash hit, DreamWorks-animated film Shrek, this engaging experience—featuring catchy songs like Story of My life, Morning Person, Freak Flag and more—demonstrates a colorful lesson that reminds us all to celebrate our differences, show producer Liz O'Neill said.

Shrek, the unlikely hero of our story, takes a journey to save his swamp with a wisecracking donkey and an edgy princess. The unlikely trio face a soulful dragon to defeat a ruler that doesn’t quite measure up. On their quest, the travelers meet a cookie with an attitude and a host of fairytale misfits, including fairy tale favorites such as Pinnochio, the Wicked Witch, the Big Bad Wolf, The Three Little Pigs, and the Three Bears.

Joining Spotlight Arts Collective in this production are: Myles Mattsey as Shrek, Abriella Caravette as Fiona, RJ Cecott as Donkey, Miles Kolby Meador as Lord Farquad, and Aisa Rogers as the Dragon. The group invites all to experience the cast of over 60 children and adults as they tell this fractured fairy tale with a fun plot twist.
