SUV Driver Offers Student A Ride, New Lenox D122 Warns In Parent Alert
The incident happened at the Nelson campus Tuesday afternoon, officials said.
NEW LENOX, IL — New Lenox District 122 officials on Wednesday warned parents after an incident involving a student being approached by an unknown vehicle Tuesday.
The incident happened around 4 p.m. at the Nelson campus that includes Nelson Ridge and Nelson Prairie schools, officials said in an email to parents.
"A student reported being approached by an unfamiliar vehicle which was a light gray SUV near the Nelson campus around 4 p.m.," the email to parents read. "The driver allegedly attempted to speak to the student and offer a ride. Fortunately, the student acted responsibly by avoiding the vehicle and immediately informing a trusted adult."

Officials reported the incident to New Lenox Police, and filed an informational report, officials said.
"In the meantime, we are reminding all students about the importance of being aware of their surroundings, avoiding interactions with strangers, and reporting any suspicious behavior immediately," the email reads.

The district said additional staff would be monitoring the school premises during dismissal.
Anyone who spots suspicious activity is asked to report it to the respective school and authorities, the district said.
