TikTok Challenge Has New Lenox Schools, Police On Alert

NEW LENOX, IL — A TikTok challenge making the rounds has police, schools and parents on alert. The challenge reportedly calls for students to threaten gun violence Friday, Dec. 17.

New Lenox Police Deputy Chief Micah Nuesse told Patch via email Thursday that "The NLPD is aware of this TikTok and have been in contact with the local school districts. The NLPD has not received any specific threats nor have we been made aware of any threats in our area. The NLPD will have an enhanced presence at the schools tomorrow (Dec. 17)."

Lincoln-Way Community High School District 210 sent an email to parents stating that there was "no indication of specific threats within Lincoln-Way District 210 at this time."

"Safety is our top priority," the statement continued. "We are in communication with local law enforcement and will continue to be vigilant in monitoring the situation. Please be sure to report any concerning messages that you see or hear to administration and/or local authorities."

Other police departments in the Lincoln-Way area are issuing similar statements. The Frankfort and Mokena Police Departments have both told Patch that they are aware of the challenge and are increasing the police presence around schools.
