Victim Lied About Being Robbed At Gunpoint During Sale: Police
Police said a person who said he was robbed while selling a phone never saw a gun and that he was actually selling prescription medicine.
NEW LENOX, IL — Hours after New Lenox Police said they were searching for a suspect who police were told pulled out a gun during the sale of an electronic item early Tuesday morning, officials said the supposed victim in the incident "changed his story" after contacting police.
Police were called to the Food and Fuel at Cedar Road and Route 6 just after midnight after getting reports of an armed robbery. Police initially said that the robbery took place in the 1200 block of Town Crest Drive.
Police said Tuesday morning that the suspect pulled out a gun and stole the electronic item from the other person. Neither the suspect nor the victim are New Lenox residents, police said. However, early Tuesday afternoon, police officials released an update saying that the person claiming to be the victim said he never saw a gun during the interaction with the other person.

Police said that the supposed victim said he was not in New Lenox to purchase a phone from the other person, but instead to sell his prescription medication. The person told police said that they never saw a gun while being threatened in the incident and no longer wished to pursue criminal charges against the other person.
Police also said that social media claims about an attempted carjacking are not true. Police said that the incident is isolated and that there is no threat to the general community.
