Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion Gets the Go Ahead

Trustees gave their nod of approval and reviewed water and sanitary sewer upgrades at the regular Monday meeting of the Village Board.

A plan to expand the Village's wastewater treatment plant has been revived and set in motion with authorization of an updated engineering proposal. Trustees authorized an updated engineering services plan by Aecom Engineers, of Chicago, for the design and expansion of Wastewater Treatment Plant No. 2.

The plan is to double the capacity of the plant from three-quarters of a million gallons a day (MGD) to 1.5 MGD. It was initiated in 2006, when design engineering services were started. A combination of permitting problems related to Wastewater Treatment Plant No. 1 together with the economic downturn worked to put the expansion project on hold.

The overall projected cost of the project, includes $746,681 for revised design services and $518,500 for construction services.

In addition, the planned $9 million public works building along Ellis Drive went up about $9,500 because the Village couldn't acquire the desired easement. The project requires an 8-inch sanitary sewer, which will be built on an easement along the south side of Gougar Road, said Village Administrator Kurt Carroll.

Special use permits and raffle licenses

A planned Parent Teacher Organization event at Liberty Junior High School on March 9 required a permit to sell raffle tickets. And Trinity Services sought a special use permit for the sale of raffle tickets for their upcoming Trivia Night fundraiser on March 8.

A special use event permit was issued to Tom Kelly's Chophouse & Pub for a two-day St. Patrick's Day party. A tent will be set up outside the building, where live bands are scheduled to play over the weekend. The tent will open from 9 pm. till 1 a.m. both days.

Before the meeting, board member and Mayor Tim Baldermann took time to laud the accomplishments of Providence Catholic High School varsity cheerleaders, who recently took first place at the Illinois State Competition and claimed the title of grand champions in their division in a national competition in Louisville, Ky.
