10 Niles-Area Students Named Merit Semifinalists
Eight Maine South students, one Maine East student and one Northridge Prep student were given the prestigious academic honor, which goes to a select few in the nation.

Students from Maine South an Maine East High Schools in Maine Township High School District 207 and Northridge College Prep, a boys' Catholic high school in Niles, are among the nation’s National Merit Scholarship semifinalists, putting them among the country’s academic elite, according to a news release from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
Students from Park Ridge and Niles (southwest portion) attend Maine South.
Students from Niles, Morton Grove, Park Ridge and Glenview attend Maine East.

This group is part of 16,000 students nationwide who scored highest on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test out of approximately 1.5 million people who took the exam. Their scores put them in better than the top one percent of all test takers.
Finalists will be announced in the spring. Approximately 8,000 of the finalists will receive scholarships worth more than $35 million.
