The front is a cottage garden style with a mix of roses, perennials and annuals. Â The parkway has beds cut into it which feature daylillies, shade plants and roses. Â A climbing rose covers the arbor at the entrance. Â Formerly a shady garden, the death of an ash tree this spring allowed the introduction of sun-loving plants. Â There are roses, foxgloves, delphiniums and many lillies with annuals for extra color. Â A curving brick path takes you past the bench by the bird feeder and through the gate into the back yard. Â A wisteria covered pergola shades a seating area. Â There is no lawn in the back; just vegetables and shrubs in a kitchen garden style. Â All of the vegetables, annuals and some perennials are started from seed each year. Â Heirloom plants are featured, especially peppers, eggplants, tomatoes and cabbages. Â This garden shows vegetable growing can be attractive as well as delicious.Â

Theirs is a garden with morning sun and afternoon shade. Â It thus lends itself to growing hostas, coleus, ferns and caladiums. Â Hydrangeas also like this lighting. Â In our garden there 230 varities of hostas. Â Most have reached their mature stage. Â Because of the good rains they are in the best shape ever. Â There is a path that wends its way through the entire back yard as there is no lawn. Â Scattered about are annuals and perennials. Â Hostas are also located in the front of the house and along the drive.
