Local Businesses Awarded by Economic Development Commission

Community Choice Business Awards presented at village board meeting last night.

Residents and trustees let out collective โ€œoohsโ€ and โ€œaahsโ€ last night when the 2011 Community Choice Business Awards were unveiled at the Morton Grove Village Board meeting.ย 

The beautiful glass trophies acknowledged various businesses throughout Morton Grove and were presented by John Said, Director of Community and Economic Development.

โ€œEarlier this year the EDC (Economic Development Commission) and I developed the idea to recognize the business community for their efforts to beautify their properties,โ€ Said said. โ€œAnd the Community Choice Business Awards program is the result.โ€

Roughly 20 businesses in three separate categories were nominated by residents and the winners were then selected by a review panel.ย

, and Advanced Dental won the award for Outstanding Building and Facade. Best Business Sign went to and and Excellence in Groundskeeping was awarded to , Niles Township Schools Credit Union and Giordanoโ€™s.

This was the first year for the Community Choice award and Said added that the program wouldnโ€™t have been possible without the businesses as well as the nominators.

The review panel consisted of Deanna Gotta and Ron Stein of the Appearance Commission, Cindy Kopczyk and Rich Block representing the Chamber of Commerce and Jennifer Mitchell and Al Heinrich from the EDC.

โ€œThank you to the business community, thank you to all the nominees and nominators and letโ€™s all remember to support our local business community,โ€ Said added.

Ted Mavrakis, owner of Giordanoโ€™s restaurant, which won two awards, said he was happy to be recognized by the village.

โ€œIโ€™m very proud of this award,โ€ Mavrakis said. โ€œItโ€™s excellent, I love it. Itโ€™s coming from a great town, too.โ€ย
