Man Shot In The Head While Sitting In His Car, Police Said

The man was taken to a hospital. While Niles police said no one was in custody as of Wednesday, they believe the incident is isolated.

NILES, IL โ€” A 38-year-old man was shot in the head Tuesday morning while sitting in his car, Niles police said in a statement.

Officers were dispatched around 4:24 a.m. to a report that a person had been struck an alley in the 8000 block of Lyons Street, according to a department spokesperson.

When they arrived, police reported they found a man with a gunshot wound and took him to a local hospital.

The head injury did not appear to be life-threatening, Deputy Chief Nick Zakula told Patch.

Police said no one was in custody as of Wednesday afternoon but investigators believe the shooting was an isolated incident.

Zakula declined to say how the department determined the incident was isolated โ€” or whether the shooter had already been identified in order to "protect the integrity of this investigation."

"More details will be shared when appropriate," according to a release from the department.

Police released the name of the man shot in the head and the hospital he was taken to, but Patch has declined to share it to protect his privacy and safety.
