Man Was Choking Woman; As Police Arrived, He Fled

After someone called Niles police to say they heard a woman screaming “Get off me now!” at 2:30 a.m. June 2 at Grand and Elizabeth, police responded and saw a 20-year-old man pushing a 21-year-old Morton Grove woman up against a car and pinning her so she couldn’t escape, according to the report. The offender fled when he saw police, and officers searched the area but did not find him.

The woman said she had been driving the offender to his girlfriend’s house in the 8200 block of Elizabeth and an argument started in the car. At one point, everyone in the car got out, and the offender swore at the victim and tried to pin her against her vehicle and block her from escaping, according to the report. He also took her cell phone and car keys. At one point she slapped him on the face, and he then put his hands around her neck and began closing his fingers around it. She was starting to choke when he noticed police arriving, let go of her and fled. The woman said she would sign complaints against the offender.
