National Night Out Tonight Promises Fun and Food
Here's what's up today in Niles and Morton Grove. Niles police try to make NNO a good time for residents, with dunk-a-cop, and one year even had a donut-eating contest for kids.

- Come out to Niles' Oak Park from 6:30 to 9 p.m., and bring the kids. To celebrate National Night Out, Niles police traditionally put on all sorts of fun activities, from dunk-a-cop to food-eating contests, and this year, a chance to wear "impaired driving" goggles that simulate what it's like to be drunk. You might even learn something about how to keep burglars from breaking into your home or your kid safe from kidnappers.
- Do you live in East Maine Elementary District 63? (Nelson, Mark Twain, Gemini, Washington and Melzer schools, among others.) You can register your child for school today from 10 a.m.to 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.to 7 p.m.
- Morton Grove Public Library hosts Drop-In Storytime for children and their parent or caregiver. There are stories, songs and crafts to enjoy. If only they had these for big people!
