New Apple iPhone 4S Unveiled

Revamped smart phone has voice-recognition features, improved camera.

Apple unveiled the latest version of its iPhone today in California, but there were no signs of the widely rumored iPhone 5, as reported by The New York Times. ย 

But even though the new iPhone 4S isnโ€™t quite what most expected - and still has the same shape as the iPhone 4 - the smart phone will have more than 200 new features including an โ€œintelligent assistant.โ€

Siri is a voice-control feature which allows users to give different tasks and ask questions to their iPhone. With Siri, iPhone 4S owners can schedule calendar events, reminders, get directions to restaurants and even search Wikipedia all by voice command.

Not only can users talk to the phone, but the phone responds. "What time is it in Paris?" Scott Forstall, Apple's iOS chief asked during today's event, according to The New York Times. The phone replied with the time in Paris and showed a clock. "Wake me up at 6 a.m.," Forstall added. "OK, I've set an alarm for 6 a.m. tomorrow," the phone replied.

Along with the Siri feature, the phone has a revamped camera with 60 percent more pixels than the iPhone 4 and offers the highest high-definition standard available.

The iPhone 4S goes on sale Oct. 14 and will be available in black and white. Prices for the iPhone 4S range from $199 for 16 gigabytes of storage to $399 for 64 GB.
