Safelite AutoGlass May Soon Come to Morton Grove
Trustees grant special use permit for proposed auto glass repair and replacement facility.

Residents may soon have another option in town when it comes to getting those pesky chips and cracks in their windshields fixed.
At last nightโs ย meeting, trustees approved the first reading of an ordinance which would allow a Safelite AutoGlass repair and replacement facility. If approved, the business would be located at 8910 Waukegan Rd. in Morton Grove.
Currently, the location houses a 20,000-square-foot vacant building. Plans call for that structure to be leveled in order to make way for a brand new 4,600-square-foot facility, complete with 15 parking spaces and four additional parking spaces inside for customers.

Village zoning regulations donโt allow auto glass repair, or replacement facilities in the C-1 district, which is where the proposed Safelite AutoGlass location falls under. However, a special use permit was granted for the building upon first reading.
โAfter hearing from the applicant and the staff, we concluded that it would be in the best interest of the village to amend their (zoning regulations) to allow that business as a separate classification as a special use in (that zone),โ said Planning and Zoning Board of Appeals Chairperson Ron Farkas.
