Safeway, Inc. plans to close all unsold Dominick's stores Dec. 28,ย Crain's Chicago Businessย reported Thursday.ย Crain'sย cited a company memo informing employees they would be "separated" and that the closures are expected to be permanent.ย

Theย Chicago Tribuneย reported earlier this monthย thatย Safeway wants to pull out of the Chicago market within the year. There are currently 72 Dominick's stores in the Chicago area.ย Four of the storesย have been sold to Jewel-Osco owner New Albertson's, Inc., according toย Crain's.

Morton Grove's Dominick's storeย is located in Prairie View Plaza, at the southeast corner of Dempster Street and Waukegan Road.ย

When Patch.com earlier asked readers what they would like to see fill the Dominick's space in Morton Grove, Mark said Trader Joe's, and readers on Facebook suggested Mariano's and Hobby Lobby.ย

Many grocery chains are building in, or have announced plans to build in, Morton Grove's neighbors:ย Fresh Farms is building a second location in Niles,ย filling a vacated Jewel-Osco space.ย Skokie isย getting a Mariano's on Touhy near McCormick.ย Park Ridge isย getting a Whole Foodsย on Touhy Avenue. Glenview is also getting a Mariano's, on Waukegan Road very close to Morton Grove.
