Youth Travel to Make Positive Impact

St. David's Episcopal Church takes Glenview area youth on mission trip to Pennsylvania.

A group of students from the nearby Glenview area recently took a week-long mission trip to Scranton, Pennsylvania to lend a helping hand to those in need.

Nine members of St. Davidโ€™s Episcopal Church traveled to the town with a special focus on serving community members and changing lives. The group helped low-income families by painting, roofing, as well as building wheelchair ramps and new porches.

โ€œThere's something very powerful about serving others,โ€ said Ashley Waldron, a youth minister at St. Davidโ€™s.ย โ€œWhen you have a relationship with someone in need you change and see them as real people rather than just needy.โ€

The trip was made possible by St. Davidโ€™s Episcopal Church as well as area residents and was part of Group Workcamps, which assesses the needs of low-income individuals and matches them with youth and adult volunteer groups.ย

โ€œYou develop friendships and itโ€™s a great chance to grow, learn about the larger world, and see the impact of service,โ€ Waldron said.
