Don't Fall For Phony GoFundMe Pages For Fallen Trooper: ISP

Neither the police nor the family of Trooper Christopher Lambert have authorized any fundraisers yet.

NORTHBROOK, IL — A day after a state trooper was fatally hit while responding to a multi-vehicle crash, Illinois State Police are warning well-meaning residents of unauthorized online fundraisers. Police on Sunday urged residents to hold off on making any donations for Trooper Christopher Lambert's family, which includes a wife and 1-year-old daughter.

"The family of fallen Trooper Christopher Lambert and the Illinois State Police have NOT started or created any type of 'Go Fund Me' accounts," police said via Facebook. "If and when an account is created and/or vetted by a representative of his family, WE, the Illinois State Police, will confirm and make known to the public. We encourage you to wait to make any donations at this time to any funding accounts being shared on social media."

Lambert, 34, was on his way home from work when he stopped to assist crash victims on northbound I-294. He was struck by a passing car and transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead several hours later.

State police said funeral and visitation arrangements are pending for Lambert, who was also a U.S. Army veteran. Lambert was a five-year veteran of Illinois State Police District 15 in Downers Grove.
