Pritzker Awards $600K Grant To Northbrook Park District

NORTHBROOK, IL — The Northbrook Park District is one of 100 parks statewide that will be receiving grant funding for local park projects. Gov. JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources made the announcement Monday.

Specifically, the Northbrook Park District will be receiving a $600,000 grant, part of $55.2 million intended to help communities acquire land and develop recreational opportunities.

"Since I became Governor, it’s been my mission to build stronger, healthier communities across Illinois," Gov. JB Pritzker said. "Through the OSLAD program, we’re bringing that vision to life by awarding over $55.2 million to local park projects, expanding green spaces and creating new recreational opportunities for all."

According to the governor's office, for the third year in a row, funding was set aside for economically distressed communities, resulting in 29 underserved locations receiving $17.3 million in grants from the Open Space Land Acquisition and Development, or OSLAD, program.

Established by the Illinois General Assembly in 1986, OSLAD is a cost-sharing program between state and local governments that helps communities fund land acquisition and development for parks and outdoor recreation projects.
