Prosecute Complainants Who File False Police Reports!

Complainants who file false police reports ought to be prosecuted!

Filing false police reports, which often lead to false arrests, is very easy. It is also criminal. Prosecutors rarely charge complainants with filing false police reports, because they are overly concerned that such charges will have a chilling effect on other complainants/witnesses reporting future bona fide crimes.

The Jussie Smollett (SMOLLETT) matter received the attention that it did simply because it was a "HEATER" (i.e., high profile) case. SMOLLETT's case was high profile, because it allegedly involved violence against a black, homosexual, Hollywood actor. Then, after being exposed as a liar, SMOLLETT properly went from complainant to offender in the same case!

To avoid accountability, prosecutors frequently engage in plausible deniability (i.e., sticking their heads in the sand/playing dumb) when presented with complainants who are willing to testify about supposed offenses. It is high time that we hold prosecutors accountable to fulfill their ethical duty to properly investigate all police reports that fail the Smell Test, not just the ones that make the news. If a complainant filed a false police report, she/he ought to be prosecuted.
