Roscoe Village Bikes Now a True ‘Mom & Pop’ Shop (PHOTOS)
The new parents who own the Roscoe Village staple are revving up for the holiday shopping season.
As the neighborhood staple Roscoe Village Bikes inches closer to its six year anniversary, the owners are preparing for the holiday shopping rush while taking on a new adventure: parenthood.
Owners Alex and Lesley Tweedie have lived in Roscoe Village for 12 years, and in March of 2007, the two opened their bike shop at 2016 W. Roscoe St. Now after six years of marriage and almost six years of business, the duo is cementing their status as a locally owned business.
“My wife and I actually just had a baby,” Alex Tweedie said casually while chatting about holiday shoppers. “My wife is my business partner, and we own the shop together. I guess you could say we’re a true mom and pop shop now.”

Tweedie says Small Business Saturday after Black Friday was a great day for Roscoe Village Bikes, with customers even making an effort to do their shopping on that day.
“It was really good,” Tweedie said. “There was a lot of enthusiasm about it around here.”
And the “mom and pop” are bringing back a holiday favorite for the Winterfest in Roscoe Village event this Saturday and Sunday. Using recycled bicycle parts usually tossed after fixing a bike, Tweedie and his team are helping neighbors create unique ornaments.
“It doesn’t cost anything to do the ornament making,” Tweedie said. “We just save old and broken parts that we’d usually send to the scrapper. We’ve done it a few years, and it’s kind of turned into a cool event for us. People really like it.”
With their dog and store mascot Buddy at their side, the Roscoe Village family is the epitome of a locally owned business.
