SUV Hits Two Girls, 15, Outside Lane Tech

One of the girls was injured critically after being hit by a Ford Explorer in North Center Monday.

Two 15-year-old girls were hit by an SUV outside Lane Tech High School in North Center Monday, causing both to be rushed to Advocate Illinois Masonic Hospital, the Chicago Tribune reports.

At the time of admission, one was listed in critical condition, and the other in fair condition, Police told WGN Radio.

The accident occurred around 5:45 p.m. when a Ford Explorer was driving down the center median at the 3500 block of North Western Avenue, police told the Tribune. The girls were hit in the street.

One of the girls attended Lane Tech, the story says, while the other is enrolled at Whitney Young Magnet High School on the West Side.

After the accident, North Center residents noticed police cars, ambulances and other emergency vehicles in front of the school.

“Just had to detour to avoid a big emergency of some sort in front of Lane. Anyone know what happened?” asked Izaleo on EveryBlock.

Residents responded that they heard two girls were run over by a vehicle.

The driver of the Ford Explorer remained at the scene after the accident and was given a citation for striking pedestrians in the roadway, WGN reports.
