An officer on patrol shortly after 3:30 a.m. was passed by a sedan speeding with its lights off on Route 83 near 31st Street, with the car exiting onto eastbound Interstate 88, police said.
The officer followed the car and saw it, crashed, rolled over, and fully engulfed in flames in the engine compartment, with one person trapped inside, according to police, who said officers used fire extinguishers on the blaze and extricated the person by crawling under the overturned vehicle.
