Firefighters Give Free Smoke Detectors To Oak Forest Residents
The giveaway was conducted a day after a fire left a home on Alameda Avenue uninhabitable.

OAK FOREST, IL β Firefighters earlier this week passed out free smoke detectors to residents in Oak Forest who did not already have working ones in their homes. Oak Forest Fire Chief John Janozik said the service was made possible through the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance in north suburban Mount Prospect.
The firefighters delivered the smoke detectors Tuesday to residents in the area of the 15200 block of Alameda Avenue, where an early Monday morning fire left a home uninhabitable.
Janozik said working smoke detectors were not found in the home, where the residents were awakened to the smell of smoke.
