Former Oak Forest Scout Volunteer Charged With Child Rape, Porn
Jason Akai was indicted on 23 criminal felony counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child under 13 and of child pornography.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — A former Oak Forest Cub Scouts volunteer was indicted Wednesday on 23 criminal felony counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child under 13 and of child pornography.
Jason Akai, 44, of the 15000 block of Oak Forest Road, was charged with two Class X felony counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child. Akai also was charged with another 19 Class X felony counts of possession of child pornography, and two Class 1 felony counts of possession of child pornography.
The Class X felonies carry a sentence of six to 30 years for each county. Each Class 1 felony carries a prison sentence of four years to 15 years. Akai is not eligible for probation under those charges.

"Predatory criminal sexual assault and child pornography crimes like these are among the worst crimes imaginable," Lake County State's Attorney Michael G. Nerheim said in a statement. "My office is committed to punishing child sex offenders to the fullest extent of the law."
Akai was arrested June 20 after an out-of-state therapist tipped off the state Department of Children and Family Services, which then alerted Buffalo Grove Police.

An accomplice, Kimberly Schubert, 43, of Buffalo Grove, was arrested first. She was taken into custody on May 30 and also faces felony charges of predatory criminal sexual assault with a child under 13 and of child pornography. Authorities believe she supplied Akai with the pornographic images. Her trial date in Oct. 21.
Akai is scheduled to appear before Lake County Circuit Court Judge Victoria Rossetti for arraignment on July 24. He remains in Lake County Jail on $750,000 bail.
