Oak Forest Man, 27, Killed In Fall From Scaffolding At UChicago

David O'Donnell, 27, fell from the scaffolding at the hospital's cancer pavilion, reports said Thursday.

CHICAGO — A construction worker killed after falling nine stories from scaffolding at University of Chicago Hospital has been identified as a 27-year-old Oak Forest man.

David O'Donnell was one of two who fell from scaffolding that broke loose amid windy conditions Thursday at the hospital's cancer pavilion. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified O'Donnell.

Police responded around 11:45 a.m. to the 5600 block of South Maryland Street, authorities said. A 27-year-old man, later identified as O'Donnell, was taken to the University of Chicago hospital and later pronounced dead, and another man was brought to the same hospital in critical condition, according to police, who are investigating the incident as an accident.

The Occupational Safety & Health Administration also responded to the scene, WGN reported.

O'Donnell was doing construction work on the university’s cancer pavilion. The scaffolding was believed to have been impacted by 40 mph winds.
