Oak Forest's Fierke Education Center To Celebrate 50th Anniversary

The District 146 school teaches students kindergarten through fifth grade. District and school staff will celebrate the week of May 1.

OAK FOREST, IL — Fierke Education Center will mark 50 years in Oak Forest this year. The school first opened its doors for the 1972-1973 school year.

The school is named for former District 146 superintendent Walter Fierke.

A week of events celebrating the 50th anniversary will kick off on May 1. Throughout the week, each grade level will submit items to be included in a time capsule. A time warp will occur on Tuesday with students dressing in '70s attire.

Families and members of the community are invited to attend an Open House on Thursday, May 4. Attendees will enjoy a student skit, a choir performance, and a timeline display.

The week will conclude on Friday, when the time capsule is unveiled. Friday evening, the Fierke PTO is hosting Fierke students and families at the Tinley Park Roller Rink for a 50th Birthday Party.

Community Consolidated School District 146 includes Central Middle School, Fierke Education Center, Fulton School, Kruse Education Center, and Memorial School. Students from Tinley Park, Orland Park, and Oak Forest attend District 146 schools.
