City officials say they are using $250,000 from reserves to soften the hike while funding future operating costs, capital projects, and staffing needs, noting the city’s share remains a small slice of total property taxes.

• 1 Injured, Residents Displaced In Overnight Apartment Fire: Oak Forest Fire Department (patch.com) — An overnight apartment fire at 15802 Terrace Drive in Oak Forest left one resident with minor first-degree burns and forced everyone from the now-uninhabitable building. Oak Forest firefighters, aided by neighboring departments under a box alarm, attacked heavy flames from a third-floor unit that spread to the roof. Officials say the displaced residents declined Red Cross help, and the cause remains under investigation.
