WeishFest 2017: When, How To See Third Eye Blind At Benefit Show
The band headlines the annual benefit to raise money for the foundation set up in honor of the late St. Damian grad Andrew Weishar.

Debuting in 2013, WeishFest was created to remember Andrew Weishar, a graduate of Oak Forest's St. Damian School and Chicago's Brother Rice High School who died of colorectal cancer in 21. He was only 21.
While the music event is about honoring the late Midlothian teen's memory, it's not solely concerned with the past. It's also about looking toward the future.
WeishFest is an annual benefit concert that raises money for the Andrew Weishar Foundation, which helps kids and young adults battling cancer. The foundation was established based on a dying request by Weishar.

"Prior to Andrew’s passing, in October of 2012, he asked his younger brother Dan to 'pay forward' the acts of kindness and generosity he received," according to the foundation's mission statement. "In early 2013, [the foundation] was created to honor Andrew’s request of paying it forward, specifically by: providing acts of kindness and generosity; easing the financial burden; and providing a temporary escape."

For the past five years, WeishFest has brought together a variety of musical groups and performers to help raise money for the foundation. This year, Third Eye Blind is the headliner, and the band, known for the late '90s single "Semi-Charmed Life," will join other local acts for Friday's concert.
Over years, the benefit has attracted acts such as O.A.R., Eddie Money and Warrant to perform. Even players from the 1985 Super Bowl champion Chicago Bears team — Dennis McKinnon, Dan Hampton, Otis Wilson and Steve McMichael, among them — have been a part of past shows. In its first year, WeishFest raised more than $120,000, and around 2,200 people attended the inaugural event. Last year, the concert sold out 3,500 tickets, according to the Chicago Tribune.
