HARVEY, IL — The former food services manager for a south suburban school district pleaded guilty and was sentenced to prison time for stealing $1.5 million in food, mostly chicken wings, from her employer, according to reports.

Vera Liddell, 68, was charged with felony continuing financial crimes enterprise and theft of more than $1 million after she stole 11,000 cases of wings over 19 months while working as a consultant for Harvey School District 152, prosecutors have said.

Liddell signed for “massive amounts” of wings starting in 2020 on behalf of the district, although wings would not be a food typically served to students, prosecutors said in court documents. Gordon Food Service employees came to know her because of the large number of wings she ordered.
