CHSD 218 Extends Remote Learning Plan Through Thanksgiving Weekend
Remote learning plan extended at Richards, Shepard and Eisenhower high schools through Thanksgiving weekend at the minimum.
CHSD 218 Superintendent Dr. Ty Harting addresses extension of remote learning plan at Richards, Shepard and Eisenhower high schools.
Dear CHSD 218 Community:
Hello everyone. I hope this letter finds you well. As you have probably noticed, positivity rates for COVID 19 continue to climb both in our region and in our district. As a result, we will extend our Phase 1 Remote Learning through the Thanksgiving weekend — at a minimum. This means that the earliest we would return to Phase 2 Blended Learning would be Monday, November 30. We are still hopeful that we can bring students back for the last three weeks before the semester ends, but we will obviously not make that decision today.
Due to a high number of student failures, we have expanded the time teachers are available for student help. All Wednesdays through the remainder of the first semester (Nov 11, 18, Dec 2, 9, 16), are dedicated to academic support and grade improvement. Teachers will be available during your son or daughter’s regularly scheduled class periods on Wednesdays. Teachers will put Zoom links into their Google Classroom. Students can access the Zoom links through their individual Google classroom accounts. Teachers will also personally reach out to students who are struggling. Please encourage your child to complete any missing assignments and retake any exam failures. Check your student’s school email for any teacher contact. Urge your child to attend any Zoom invitations he or she may receive from teachers.
Finally, we have had many requests for a COVID-19 data dashboard to be placed on our website so families can be informed about how many cases have been occurring in the district. We are hopeful that the data will be posted in the next day or so.
Thank you once again for your cooperation and understanding during this unique semester. Please reach out to your high school building administration if you have specific questions.
Sincerely,
Dr. Ty Harting
