Maryam Hussein Named OLCHS September Female Athlete Of The Month
Hussein broke the Oak Lawn girls volleyball record for kills, finishing the month with 333 kills and averaging nearly 14 kills per match.

OAK LAWN, IL — There is no doubt that the 2025 girls volleyball season was one for ages for Oak Lawn Community High School’s Maryam Hussein. She simply dominated the competition in girls volleyball all year, but it took a strong month of September to get the ball flying and the records falling.
In September, she helped the Spartans to a record of 13-4 and a first-place finish in the Joliet Central Invitational. Individually, she led the state of Illinois in kills and kills per set. She earned Daily Southtown Player of the Week recognition, she received national recognition as the American Volleyball Coaches Association Player of the Week, and she earned the honor of Spartan Athlete of the Month at OLCHS.
In mid-September, Hussein broke the OLCHS record for season kills, finishing the month with 333 kills and averaging nearly 14 kills per match. She eventually finished the season as the South Suburban Conference Player of the Year.
