Oak Lawn Spartans Ready To Face EP Mustangs In Friday Homecoming Game

OAK LAWN, IL — The Oak Lawn Community High School varsity football team continued their winning ways Friday night in Summit, when they beat Argo High School in football, bringing the Spartans’ season record to 5-0.

The Spartans dominated the Argo Argonauts, emerging victorious 48-20. Sophomore wide receiver Karmari Polk was the game MVP, scoring three touchdowns in the first half, with eight carries. Polk ran the ball for 68 yards, averaging 8.5 yards per rush.

But Polk wasn’t finished, coming back in the second half to carry the ball 65 yards on a reception to score his fourth TD.

Senior fullback Alex Soto racked up 12 carries for 185 yards, averaging 15.4 per rush, picking up a touchdown for the Spartans.

The Spartans’ sophomore quarterback Danny Strelow rushed for two touchdowns and threw 103 yards passing.

Oak Lawn junior linebacker Jonathan Diaz was the standout player on the defense side.

“The boys continue to be resilient and are handling the success in a good way,” said OLCHS head coach Ryan Pattison. “They continue to stack great practices and remain focused.”

OLCHS homecoming is this week, when the Spartans face the 3-2 Evergreen Park Community High School Mustangs at Napleton Field, Friday, Oct. 3. The Mustangs were shut out 14-0 Friday by Reavis High School.

“We are looking forward to the challenge ahead with the Mustangs and them coming over here for homecoming,” Pattison said.

Reaching the midway point of the season, OLCHS finishes the rest of the season facing teams in its South Suburban Conference (Red), including 3-2 Evergreen Park (Oct. 3), 4-1 Richards (Oct. 10), 2-3 Eisenhower (Oct. 17), and 4-1 Reavis (Oct. 24).
