Supermoon to Light The Night Sky This Weekend

If the skies are clear Saturday night, the moon we'll see will appear super large and super close. 

It'll be what's called a "Supermoon," where the moon is at perigee — its closest approach to Earth, according to Astronomymagazine's website. The moon will be just 221,824 miles away from us.

So what's the best time to see this Supermoon? EarthSky says the moon will officially be full at 6:32 a.m. CDT Sunday. The actual perigee takes place about 20 minutes prior, according toAstronomy.

Don't want to get up at 6:32 a.m. to see the supermoon? The moon will look just about as full the evening of June 22, according to Astronomy, and it'll be full the evening of June 23.

EarthSky says this is the closest the moon will be to Earth until Aug. 10, 2014.
