Authorities Bust Suburban Heroin Operation in Berwyn
An undercover operation led authorities to arrest a Berwyn man and to recover drugs and cash.

Berwyn, IL - Following a long-term criminal drug investigation into narcotics dealing, authorities arrested a Berwyn man and executed a search warrant at his home that recovered 297 grams of heroin and more than $600 in cash.
Antonio Jenkins, 30 of the 1800 block of South Ridgeland Avenue in Berwyn, was arrested April 21 at his home, according to West Suburban Enhanced Drug Gang Enforcement (WEDGE), a regional task force of West Suburban Cook County police agencies.
Jenkins, a convicted felon, is charged with six counts of felony delivery of a controlled substance and two counts of felony possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, according to WEDGE.

Undercover officers bought heroin six times over several months as part of the investigation, which utilized a Berwyn police officer assigned to the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area task force and other Berwyn tactical officers, WEDGE reports.
Over the course of the investigation, 375 grams of heroin were recovered, plus the heroin and cash that were found through the search warrant execution.

“The drug search warrant arrest was a direct result of multi-jurisdictional efforts between Berwyn Police, WEDGE, and the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area task force," said Riverside Police Chief Thomas Weitzel, WEDGE chairperson, in a statement. "Sergeant Guy Papa, WEDGE Street Commander, ran the operation and ensured that a large scale heroin dealer was removed from the community and that the individual arrested can no longer wreak havoc on his neighbors.”
WEDGE reports this significant arrest puts a dent in the suburban drug operation.
