Charges Filed Against Accused Shooter in Austin Neighborhood Incident
Two men were shot Jan. 2 in the 500 block of S. Lavergne, police reported.

Chicago, IL - A Chicago man has been charged in connection to a Jan. 2 shooting in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood that sent two men to a hospital with injuries.
Steven McKinnie, 27 of the 4300 block of S. Evans Avenue in Chicago, has been charged with two felony counts of aggravated battery/discharge firearm, according to Chicago police.
McKinnie was arrested after he was identified as the person who shot two people around 4:50 a.m. Jan. 2 in the 500 block of S. Lavergne, Chicago police reported.

Police say the shooting began with a verbal dispute. A 34-year-old man was shot and wounded in his back and abdomen, and he was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, police reported. A 29-year-old man had four gunshot wounds in his torso, and he was taken to Stroger in good condition.
