• Oak Park man arrested on multiple counts of battery, aggravated assault (oakpark.com) — Oak Park police reports detail the recent arrest of a local man on multiple felony counts after an alleged attack on Harlem Avenue, along with a separate DUI arrest involving a Chicago driver on Ridgeland Avenue. All individuals named have been charged but not convicted, and the incidents represent only a portion of last week’s police activity.
   

• Opening of new shelter helps move people out of Scoville Park (oakpark.com) — Oak Park’s new overnight shelter on South Humphrey has helped move many people who had been living in Scoville Park into warm beds as winter arrives. Through the ECHO outreach program, village staff continue working with unhoused residents, distributing supplies, coordinating with Housing Forward, and building trust so more people will eventually accept shelter and services.
   

• The challenges that defined Oak Park in 2025 (oakpark.com) — Oak Park spent 2025 grappling with aggressive federal immigration enforcement, threats to sanctuary-related funding, and a major debate over how to build a new police station and renovate Village Hall. Local nonprofits like Housing Forward, Beyond Hunger and a village-based global education group also scrambled to respond to deep federal cuts and policy shifts. Village leaders and residents will carry these fights into 2026.
