Concordia University Chicago's Musical Groups to Perform Post-Tour Concerts

River Forest, IL – Concordia University Chicago’s Wind Symphony and Kapelle will each perform home concerts this fall in the Chapel of Our Lord on the university’s River Forest campus. Admission to both events is free.

The Wind Symphony will perform Friday, Oct. 21 at 8 p.m., following their tour of Michigan and Indiana. The concert will pay tribute to Olympic athletes with a performance of “Summon the Heroes” by John Williams, and will honor CUC President Daniel Gard’s retirement from the U.S. Navy with “Eternal Father, Strong to Save” by Claude T. Smith. Other performances for the evening will include works by David Gillingham, Camille Saint-Saens, Clifton Williams, Alfred Reed and Christopher Nelson.

The premier instrumental ensemble at Concordia-Chicago, the Wind Symphony maintains an active performance schedule, having performed in schools, churches and concert halls in 43 states, Canada, Eastern Europe and China. Conductor Dr. Richard R. Fischer, distinguished professor of music and the Fred and Jane Wittlinger Endowed Chair in Music Performance, has been director of bands at CUC since 1974.

The Kapelle concert will be held the following night, Saturday, Oct. 22 at 7:30 p.m., coming at the end of their tour of Missouri and Illinois. Selections for the evening will include opportunities for the audience to join in the singing of hymns, including “Holy God, We Praise Your Name,” and “Salvation Unto Us Has Come.” Allison Carpenter will be the featured flute soloist in “What Does the Lord Require of You?” by Robert Hobby.

Kapelle is the select-voice choir of Concordia University Chicago, which tours annually throughout the U.S. as has toured internationally to Canada, the Baltic States, France, Russia, South America and Poland. The ensemble is conducted by Dr. Charles P. Brown, director of choral activities at and associate professor of music at CUC.

Concordia-Chicago’s campus is located at 7400 Augusta Street, River Forest, IL. Free off-street parking is available in the University’s parking structure, south of Division Street on Bonnie Brae Place. Handicapped-accessible parking is available in the visitors’ lot adjacent to the north side of the University parking structure.
