D97 Superintendent's Advisory Panel Seeking Members

The deadline to apply for a position on the panel is March 18.

Oak Park, IL - Oak Park Elementary School District 97 Superintendent Carol Kelley is seeking dedicated individuals from the community who are interested in aiding and advancing the district’s vision planning process by applying to serve in a voluntary capacity on the Superintendent’s Advisory Panel.

Charge of the Superintendent’s Advisory Panel
The Superintendent’s Advisory Panel will use the information collected during the “Listen and Learn” sessions in the fall, as well as the feedback that will be gathered during the community conversations this spring, to identify the overarching themes and key next steps that will enable the district to support the long-term success of its schools and more effectively meet the needs of all students.

Composition of the Superintendent’s Advisory Panel
The Superintendent’s Advisory Panel will be comprised of the following individuals:

  • 2 members of the Board of Education
  • 8 school and district-level administrators
  • 8 classroom teachers
  • 8 community members*
  • 4 middle school students (2 each from Brooks and Julian)

*The goal is to identify one representative from each of the eight elementary school attendance areas. In terms of the types of individuals, they may include, but not be limited to, current, future or former District 97 parents/guardians, community members who do not have children enrolled in the district’s schools, etc.

Selection Criteria
Below are the criteria and expectations Kelley will use to select the members of the Superintendent’s Advisory Panel.

  • The panel will represent the diversity (e.g., race, gender, income level, etc.) of the community, as well as the experience and expertise of its citizens.

  • Applicants must fall into one or more of the following categories:
    • Current District 97 middle school student
    • Current, former or future District 97 parent/guardian
    • Current District 97 employee (teacher, administrator, support staff member, etc.)
    • Current Oak Park resident
  • Applicants will be expected to attend at least two meetings per month for the remainder of the school year (March through June), as well as any summer sessions that are deemed necessary for fulfilling the responsibilities of the group. All meetings will be held in the evening (i.e., between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.).

  • Applicants must be willing to fully participate in all aspects of the vision planning process, and be comfortable working with others in a collaborative team environment.
