Here are the top three stories in Oak Park-River Forest today:
- Two separate incidents occurred in Oak Park resulting in the deaths of two individuals, one due to natural causes and the other from a gunshot wound to the head. No foul play is suspected in either of these cases, which have been handed over to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. The deceased were identified as Barbara Sanduski, a former Oak Park resident who died naturally, and an unidentified man found with a gunshot wound in a parked vehicle, prompting an ongoing investigation. - In Chicago's nearby Lawndale neighborhood, a 32-year-old man was shot in the leg while riding as a passenger in a vehicle during an incident of gunfire on South Springfield Avenue around 9:34 p.m. on Wednesday. The injured man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and is reported to be in good condition. Police are conducting an investigation, but no suspects have been apprehended yet. (FOX 32 Chicago)
- A lawsuit was expected to be filed yesterday, Aug. 31, regarding the Wicker Park hit-and-run incident where a 17-year-old was seriously injured. Lawyers representing Nakari Campbell's family have shared a graphic video capturing the teenager being hit, dragged, and left in the street as the car involved drives away. The incident, which occurred on Aug. 4 at Ashland Avenue and Division Street, has led to Campbell's hospitalization and the family's intention to sue the car's owner as the driver's identity remains undisclosed by the police.
