Video Of Missing Ex-NFL Player Reportedly Surfaces Amid Mother's Death
Sergio Brown's brother urged him to come home after Myrtle Brown, 73, was found dead near a creek behind her Maywood home.

MAYWOOD, IL — The search for a former NFL player continues Tuesday as Maywood police continue to investigate the slaying of his 73-year-old mother over the weekend, as his brother pleads for him to return home and a video that purportedly shows the former football player has surfaced online.
Sergio Brown, who played at Notre Dame and for four NFL teams before retiring, remains missing after his mother, Myrtle Brown, was killed in an assault, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Myrtle Brown’s death has been ruled a homicide after police found her body near a creek behind her home. A spokeswoman for the Medical Examiner’s Office said Monday that Myrtle Brown died from injuries linked to an assault that occurred on Saturday, officials said.

On Monday, video surfaced of a person appearing to be Sergio Brown that was posted to a burner Instagram account reported to be used by the former football player. The video, which has since been deleted, placed Brown in Mexico City. In the video, that man who appears to be Brown goes on a rant, claiming he was twice kidnapped by the FBI and by local police. He also claims that the FBI and Maywood Police Department had to be behind the death of his mother and says he believed his mother was on vacation, according to multiple media outlets.
The man in the video also claims his mother's death to be "fake news," Deadspin reported, and said that the FBI has the power "to do (expletive) like that."

In a statement issued by Maywood Police, the department said, "Maywood Police Department detectives are aware of a video that has surfaced on social media in relation to Mr. Sergio Brown, who is still considered a missing person, and are also looking (the video's) authenticity."
On Monday, Nick Brown, the brother of Sergio Brown, wrote on Instagram that his brother remained missing.
“If anyone knows where he is, I want him to know that I love you and please come home,” Nick Brown wrote in the post.
Nick Brown called the tragedy a “sad but hopeful time” in the post and said his family would get through this together.
“Mom always told me, ‘Tough times don’t last’ and our last conversation about tough times being temporary is my beacon of hope,” he wrote. “Mom, thank you for being strong, caring, diligent, fancy, funny, and for saving my art. I won’t let you down.”
The post asked people not to go near the scene where police found Myrtle Brown’s body, as it remains an active investigation.
Sergio Brown, 35, played for the New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Buffalo Bills during his seven-year NFL career.
Maywood Police began an investigation after family members said they were unable to locate either Myrtle or Sergio Brown for 72 hours, officials said in a news release. A neighbor told WBBM that he had last seen the Browns on Thursday before family members contacted the police.
In their statement Tuesday, police added, "Currently this is an active investigation, and the department is unable to share any further details at this time. We appreciate your patience while our agency continues to investigate the matter."
