1. A three-hour police standoff at a Riverside apartment ended peacefully Wednesday. The landlord of a building in the 100 block of East Quincy Street reportedly pistol-whipped a tenant who was moving out. No shots were fired, and the landlord eventually surrendered to police and a SWAT team from the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System. (Landmark)

2. A group of Dominican University students helped 300 people in Maywood get the COVID-19 vaccine this summer. Members of the “Faith in the Vaccine” program “reached out to people in laundromats, food pantries, currency exchanges and other public spaces” in the community, where only 40 percent of residents are vaccinated. 3. Oak Park nonprofit Beyond Hunger plans to use its $85,000 allocation of American Rescue Plan funds to hire more staff at the food pantry. Executive Officer Michele Zurakowski told the Village the number of Oak Park residents utilizing the food pantry "has grown considerably during the pandemic." (Wednesday Journal)

4. River Forest’s Annual 9/11 LemonAid Stand event will be held at 3 p.m. tomorrow in the 700 Block of Bonnie Brae. The event has raised more than $400,000 for local children’s charities during its 20-year run. (LemonAid)

5. Fenwick High School offensive lineman Jimmy Liston has committed to play for Purdue University in 2022. The four-year varsity starter was considered a top prospect in Illinois, with offers from Penn State, Texas Tech and more. (JC Online)
