Help Oak Park Families Displaced By Fire

Collections being taken for kids at Longfellow and Julian schools and others who are among the victims needing clothing and more.

Help is needed for families who were displaced by the four-alarm fire that destroyed an apartment complex at the corner of Washington Boulevard and Cuyler Avenue in Oak Park overnight Tuesday. Several families from Longfellow Elementary School and Julian Middle School were affected. Donations can be made to either the school or the Oak Park Regional Housing Center.

The families have told the schools that their most immediate needs are clothing and gift cards. In terms of clothing, the list of items and corresponding sizes is below. As for the gift cards, we recommend the following.

  • Visa
  • American Express
  • Target
  • Kohl’s
  • WalMart
  • Walgreen’s
  • CVS

All donations can be dropped off at Longfellow, located at 715 S. Highland Ave. We will be delivering items to the families on a regular basis or as needed in the days ahead.

Donations for the families can be made via credit card by visiting this site. Although it says “donate to the Housing Center,” this link is specifically for the families displaced by the fire.

Cash/checks/gift cards and other items can also be dropped off at the Oak Park Regional Housing Center, located at 1041 South Boulevard.
