Man With Guns Arrested Near School, Church: Police

Franklin Park Director of Police Michael Witz said this would've 'hit national news' if the man carried out his plan, according to a report.

FRANKLIN PARK, IL — A man with several rounds of ammunition and handguns was arrested Monday near a Franklin Park school and church after making alarming statements on Facebook, according to Franklin Park officials. The Chicago Tribune said the incident started around 5 a.m. when the 28-year-old man, who is not a Franklin Park resident, made statements that caused the police to respond, according to Franklin Park Director of Police Michael Witz, who added this would've hit "national news" if the man carried out his plan.

According to a statement made by Mayor Barrett Pedersen during Monday's village board meeting, the man was in the basement of a building in the 2900 block of Gustav Street. This is the same block where Filadelfia Evangelical Free Church and Hester Junior High School are located across Chestnut Avenue at 2836 Gustav St., the Chicago Tribune reported.

According to Witz, the man had three handguns with him, plus ammunition and two more firearms in a vehicle nearby, The Chicago Tribune reported. Charges are expected by Wednesday morning.
