He stole a postal key and was found in possession of mail that was not his, according to authorities

CHICAGO — A Chicago man is accused of robbing two postal carriers and a pizzeria employee last year in the west suburbs, according to authorities.

Devan Flax, 21, assaulted and robbed one carrier Nov. 25 and the other Nov. 28, with both encounters occurring on Beloit Avenue in Forest Park, authorities said, adding he robbed the pizzeria worker Nov. 26 in Berwyn.

Flax robbed the carriers of a postal key and was found in possession of stolen mail, according to authorities, who said Flax was armed during the robberies of the postal carriers.

“Individuals who use violence against postal carriers to gain access to the public's mail must be held accountable,” said Morris Pasqual, acting U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, said in a news release.

Flax was detained in law enforcement custody as of last week and was arraigned Oct. 16 in federal court, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. He pleaded not guilty to assault, robbery and gun charges, the department said, and his next court date is set for Nov. 20.
