MMA Fighter Dies During Competition At Chicago-Area Stadium: Report

CICERO, IL — A Chicago MMA fighter died Friday during an event at Cicero Stadium, according to a report citing town officials.

Emergency responders were called to the stadium shortly before 8:40 p.m. and took an injured fighter to Loyola University Medical Center, a spokesperson for the town of Cicero told FOX 32 Chicago.

According to an event listing, 31-year-old Isaac Johnson was scheduled to fight in a heavyweight Thai matchup Friday night at an event called the Matador Fighter Challenge.

The Cook County Medical Examiner identified Johnson as the person who died, according to FOX 32's report.

Officials did not say when or how Johnson died.

Calling it "a post I hoped to never make," a fight promoter shared on Facebook that Johnson had collapsed towards the end of his fight and received medical attention from staff on site before being transported to the hospital. He added, "I don't have the words to express how I feel right now, all I can say is my deepest condolences to his family, friends, and teammates."

Johnson's death remains under investigation.
