OAK PARK, IL — Family and friends will participate in the 5th annual Team Owen 5K race and block party in Oak Park on Saturday, to raise money for research and hope for Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), a rare and aggressive pediatric brain tumor with no cure and few treatment options.

Team Owen was started in 2020 in honor of Owen Shaker Petrzelka, who was diagnosed in April 2020 with DIPG and died six months later in October 2020.

The Team Owen 5k is part of a larger effort by The ChadTough Foundation, founded by Tammi and Jason Carr who also tragically lost their son Chad to DIPG in 2015. Since RunTough for ChadTough began, Carr and her Foundation have raised millions of dollars dedicated solely to fund pediatric brain cancer research.
