Oak Park May Have Options for Eisenhower Wall Design

Five out of 12 sections along the expressway seem likely to approve the walls, reports say.


Oak Park, IL - With Eisenhower Expressway noise barrier ballots due by the end of the month, Oak Park village engineer Bill McKenna told the Chicago Tribune seven out of 12 voting sections are voting against having the walls installed.

The Illinois Department of Transportation reported to the Tribune that five sections seem likely to approve the walls, but village officials expressed uncertainty at a meeting Feb. 22 about why voting is taking place years before walls may be installed.

IDOT presented several aesthetic designs at the meeting that could change public opinions about the walls. The village would have to pay for decorative elements added to the IDOT-funded walls and bridges, the Tribune reported.
