Oak Park Offers Nature Programs For Adults

Keep warm with these seasonal activities.

The Park District of Oak Park has kicked off its nature programs for adults, and the events aren't slowing down as the weather gets colder. Check out the schedule and sign-up lists below.

Succulent Pumpkin Creations
Create a fall tablescape using succulents grown on top of pumpkins and gourds. You will learn about selecting the right succulents and how to affix a beautiful arrangement on top of a pumpkin. Registration closes on 10/28. Class runs on Saturday 11/5. Sign up here.

Winter Weatherization
Join Kristen Pratt from the Peggy Notebaert Nature museum as she teaches you how to prepare your house for winter. Learn ways to decrease your heating bill and help the environment. Each participant will leave with a winterization kit. Sign up here.

Leave No Leftovers
Have you ever wondered what to do with all of the food left over from Thanksgiving? Many of our left overs end up in the landfill because we're tired of turkey. Join us for this unique cooking class that will teach you how to make creative new dishes from your Thanksgiving left overs. This program is in partnership with the Sugar Beet Co-op. Sign up here.

Green Gifting Workshop
Do you always struggle to decide what to give as gifts around the holidays? Instead of spending hours at the store, spend a night making your own gifts! Sip on some cider or cocoa, as you make truly unique one of a kind gifts that are friendly to the environment that will surely be loved by all. Each participant will make 4 gifts to take home. Ice Cores
Ice core records provide the most direct and detailed way to investigate past climate and atmospheric conditions. Analysis of the physical and chemical properties of an ice core can reveal past variations in climate ranging from seasons to hundreds of thousands of years.
