Oak Park and River Forest HS To Remove Resource Officer Position

Oak Park and River Forest High School will use funds from the school resource officer position to hire a social worker or psychologist.

OAK PARK, IL — The Oak Park and River Forest High School Board of Education voted 6-1 Thursday to end the school district's intergovernmental agreement with the Village of Oak Park, therefore eliminating its school resource officer position, according to Chicago Tribune. Now, the board will look to hire a new social worker or psychologist, using the school resource officer's $155,162.62 salary, the news report said. While school administrators recommended a period of having an officer in the building this fall to gather data to determine the position's value, a number of board members shared concern that data was already lacking, Chicago Tribune reported.

Information on the hiring of a new social worker or psychologist is expected sometime next month.
