Oak Park, River Forest Top Voter Turnout in 2016: Cook County Clerk
83.4 percent of Oak Park voters turned up to vote in November's presidential election.
The City of Chicago might boast the biggest population in the state, but the Illinois hub wasn’t a leader in voter turnout last Election Day.
According to the Chicago Tribune, Oak Park and Evanston townships stayed at the forefront when it came to the highest voter turnout in Cook County.
Cook County Clerk David Orr tweeted last week that Oak Park was number one for voter turnout in November’s election. He wrote that 83.4 percent of voters showed up to the polls in 2016’s presidential election. Evanston was a close second, he said, with 80.4 percent.

Oak Park, though it comes nowhere near Chicago’s 12,855.38 person-per-square-mile population density, doesn’t lag in state ratings, according to Zip Atlas. Its total population — 52,524 people — rounds out to just over 11,000 people per square mile. Chicago’s total population is nearing 3 million.
Coming in close after Oak Park and Evanston were New Trier at 79.9 percent, River Forest at 79.1 percent and Northfield at 77.3 percent. The lowest turnout was in Stickney, where 64.6 percent of voters filled out ballots.
In all, Cook County saw a 72 percent voter turnout in November.
