First Oak Park Shooting of 2016 Under Investigation

A Berwyn man was shot in the torso in the early morning of May 28 near the CTA Blue Line.

Oak Park, IL - A 21-year-old Berwyn man became Oak Park's first reported shooting victim of 2016 in an isolated incident early Saturday morning.

Oak Park police are investigating the shooting, which took place around 2:30 a.m. May 28 in the 1000 block of South Oak Park Avenue, according to the village.

Four people left the CTA Blue Line station at Oak Park Avenue and walked south. They spoke with people in a sedan, which was parked at the curb facing south.

Police report the sedan approached the group at a slow speed, and witnesses heard one shot, which may have been fired from the driver's side rear window.

The sedan fled south on Oak Park Avenue. Authorities haven't yet determined a motive for the shooting. Police say no Oak Park residents were involved.

The Berwyn man was shot in the torso, and he was taken to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood. He was in serious but stable condition after surgery, police reported.
